About Mon Rivera

Mon Rivera was a pioneer of trombone-led plena and a master of the trabalenguas, the rapid-fire tongue-twister lyrics that became his signature. Building on his father's musical legacy, he brought a punchy horn sound to the traditional pandero rhythms and later collaborated with Willie Colón on a landmark album. His playful, wordy plenas kept the sung-newspaper tradition alive and pointed it toward the salsa era.
