About Louis Armstrong

Louis Armstrong invented the jazz solo as we know it. His Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings of the late 1920s turned jazz from ensemble music into an art of individual improvisation, and his gravelly voice made him a global entertainer. He remained America's most beloved musical export until his death in 1971.
