Los Pleneros de la 21 are among the most important keepers of Puerto Rico's bomba and plena traditions, founded by master percussionist Juan Gutiérrez and named for a bus stop in Santurce. Working between the island and the New York diaspora, they have preserved and revitalized the roots repertoire for generations, earning a National Heritage Fellowship. Their recordings are touchstones of the modern folkloric revival.
