Girma Bèyènè was one of the most important behind-the-scenes figures of the Swinging Addis era, a gifted pianist, arranger, and occasional singer who shaped the sound of countless golden-age records. He rarely stepped into the spotlight himself, but his handful of vocal sides are treasured gems of the period. After decades of quiet in the United States, he returned to music in the 2010s, recording a celebrated comeback album with the French-Ethiopian band Akalé Wubé.
