Fefita La Grande is a Dominican force of nature, an accordionist who broke into the all-male world of merengue típico and never left. Born in Las Matas de Santa Cruz, she built a career of five decades on ferocious accordion playing, quick wit, and total refusal to behave, becoming a beloved national character as much as a musician. Younger urban artists treat her as royalty, and she still takes the stage in her eighties.
