About Dewa 19

Formed in Surabaya in 1986 by teenage friends Ahmad Dhani, Erwin Prasetya, Wawan Juniarso, and Andra Ramadhan, Dewa 19 grew into the most commercially successful Indonesian rock band of the 2000s. The roll-call of lead singers includes Ari Lasso and Once Mekel, and the catalogue spans bombastic stadium rock, sentimental balladry, and outright pop, all written largely by Dhani. Pupus and Kangen are now wedding-band standards across the country.
