Derrick May's Strings of Life, released as Rhythim Is Rhythim in 1987, is the most celebrated techno track ever made, a piano-driven anthem that defined the genre's emotional side. One of the Belleville Three, he described techno as George Clinton and Kraftwerk stuck in an elevator. His Transmat label launched the Detroit sound worldwide.
