About Darkthrone

Darkthrone, formed in Kolbotn in 1986, began as a death metal band before turning to the raw, primitive black metal that made them a cornerstone of the Norwegian scene. Their early-1990s trilogy of A Blaze in the Northern Sky, Under a Funeral Moon, and Transilvanian Hunger codified the genre's deliberately lo-fi production and tremolo-picked riffing. Reduced to the duo of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, they have refused to play live for decades and continue to release records that move between black metal, crust punk, and heavy metal.
