About Compay Segundo

A guitarist, clarinetist, and singer who invented his own seven-string armonico, Compay Segundo spent decades as a working musician in Havana before Ry Cooder's Buena Vista Social Club brought him to a global audience in 1997. His song Chan Chan opens that record and has become the most recognisable Cuban tune of the modern era. He toured the world into his nineties.
