About Bulimundo
Bulimundo, led by the visionary Katchás, electrified funaná and turned a rural, once-suppressed accordion music into a symbol of post-independence Cape Verdean pride. In the late 1970s and 1980s the band translated the gaita-and-ferrinho sound of Santiago into full electric arrangements, filling dance floors across the islands and the diaspora. Their work laid the foundation for every funaná band that followed.
