About Bulat Okudzhava
Bulat Okudzhava was a Moscow-born poet, novelist and Second World War veteran who is widely regarded as the founder of the Soviet author song. From the late 1950s he sang his own verses to simple guitar accompaniment, and home tape recordings carried them across the country long before official records appeared. His songs about the Arbat, friendship and the war favoured quiet lyricism over slogans. Melodiya issued the LP Pesni Bulata Okudzhavy in 1976. He died in 1997 in Clamart, near Paris.
