Bic Runga released the 1997 album Drive at twenty-one and watched it become the best-selling New Zealand album of its era, certified seven times platinum locally. Her warm acoustic-pop ballads, especially the single Sway, defined late-1990s adult contemporary radio in New Zealand and made her one of only a handful of New Zealand singers with a sustained Australian career. She continues to record and produce.
