About Antony Santos

Antony Santos, El Mayimbero, is the voice that carried bachata through the 1990s. He started as a güira player in Luis Vargas's band before going solo in 1991 with La Chupadera, and his rougher, faster, requinto-driven style became the template for a whole generation. Alongside Raulín Rodríguez he made bachata the dominant music of the Dominican countryside just as it was breaking into the cities.
