Über Tuvan Music
Tuvan music comes from the Republic of Tuva in southern Siberia, where khoomei throat singing lets a single performer produce two or more pitches at once. Rooted in the herding culture of the Tuvan people, it imitates rivers, wind and animals and is accompanied by instruments such as the igil fiddle and the doshpuluur lute. Groups like Huun-Huur-Tu brought the tradition to international stages from the 1990s. It is a distinct Turkic tradition in its own right, not a form of ethnic Russian folk music.
