Tango

Über Tango

Born in the working-class barrios of Buenos Aires and Montevideo in the late 19th century, tango fused African rhythms, European immigrant melodies, and the longing of the arrabal into a genre that became Argentina's most recognizable cultural export. Carlos Gardel gave it a voice, Astor Piazzolla deconstructed it, and the bandoneon remains its beating heart.
