Über Persian Rock

Guitar music made in Iran in the years before the revolution, when Tehran had a live scene and labels willing to press it. Kourosh Yaghmaei set Persian melody against fuzz and phaser, Farhad Mehrad sang in a gravelly, downbeat register unlike anything in mainstream pop, and Faramarz Aslani wrote quietly at the folk end. Reissue labels rediscovered the records decades later, which is how most listeners outside Iran found them.
