Wes Madiko had the biggest single European hit any Cameroonian artist has managed. Alane, released in 1996 and produced with Michel Sanchez of Deep Forest, sold across the continent and topped charts in several countries. He sang in Bantu languages over programmed rhythms, and the record was later revived by a Robin Schulz remix. He died in 2021.
