Über Waldjinah

Waldjinah won the national Ratu Kembang Katjang singing competition at sixteen and went on to become the defining voice of langgam Jawa, the Javanese-language strand of keroncong. Her recordings of Walang Kekek and Yen Ing Tawang Ana Lintang are the textbook versions of those standards and put a regional Javanese aesthetic at the centre of national popular taste. She still teaches singers from her home in Solo.
