Founded in Santiago de Cuba in 1925 by Miguel Matamoros with Siro Rodriguez and Rafael Cueto, Trio Matamoros was the group that carried son cubano from the eastern provinces into the world. Their close vocal harmonies, witty lyrics, and elegant guitar arrangements became the template for the genre. Songs like Son de la Loma and Lagrimas Negras are considered Cuban national heritage.
