Tomaž Pengov made the first proper Yugoslav singer-songwriter album. His 1973 debut "Odpotovanja" is widely regarded as the genre's founding document in Yugoslav music: solo voice, acoustic guitar, literate Slovene lyrics that owed as much to medieval troubadour song as to Cohen or Dylan. He kept writing slowly and deliberately until his death in 2014, leaving a small, perfect catalogue that every later Slovenian kantavtor has had to reckon with.
