A previously little-known singer who in September 2022 set tweets explaining why Iranians were protesting to a simple piano melody and posted it. Baraye was viewed tens of millions of times within days, became the anthem of the Woman Life Freedom protests, and led to his arrest. It won the first Grammy for Best Song for Social Change in 2023. He has faced repeated prosecution since.
