Über Perez Prado

Crowned the King of the Mambo, pianist and bandleader Perez Prado took the Cuban dance rhythm, supercharged it with American big-band horns, and turned it into a worldwide craze in the early 1950s. He left Havana for Mexico in 1948 after Cuban bandleaders rejected his style, and from Mexico City conquered Hollywood, the Billboard charts, and dance halls across two continents.
