Os Tubarões were one of the most important Cape Verdean bands of the independence era, fronted by the great voice of Ildo Lobo. From the 1970s they wove morna, coladeira, and funaná into songs that spoke to national identity and everyday island life, becoming a soundtrack to the young republic. Their catalog, including anthems like Djonsinho Cabral, remains a cornerstone of modern Cape Verdean popular music.
