Über NG La Banda

Founded in 1988 by flautist and arranger Jose Luis Cortes, El Tosco, NG La Banda were the band that announced timba. Their brass-heavy, deliberately aggressive sound, hyper-virtuosic instrumental writing, and explicit songs about Havana street life made them the most controversial and most influential Cuban dance group of the 1990s. Almost every timba band that followed passed through their school.
