Formed in Beijing in 1996, New Pants started as a Ramones-inspired pop-punk band led by frontman Peng Lei before swerving into synth-rock and dance-punk in the mid-2000s. Their 2019 win on the Iqiyi reality show 樂隊的夏天 turned them into household names and made the album 生活因你而火熱 a hit far beyond the indie circuit. Peng's parallel career as a visual artist and filmmaker keeps the band's iconography colourful and tongue in cheek.
