Über Mahmoud Ahmed

Mahmoud Ahmed is the towering voice of the Swinging Addis era, a former shoeshine boy who rose to sing with the Imperial Bodyguard Band and became one of Ethiopia's most beloved artists. His 1975 album Erè Mèla Mèla, reissued internationally on Crammed Discs, made him a global sensation and a cornerstone of the Éthiopiques series. His soaring, ornamented delivery over funk and soul grooves defines the golden age of Ethiopian song.
