Magic System formed in the Anoumabo neighbourhood of Abidjan and recorded Premier Gaou in 1999, a song about being played for a fool by a girlfriend who returns once the money arrives. It became a hit in Côte d'Ivoire first, then in France two years later, and it has never really left rotation. The group moved zouglou from a local student form to a music that fills European festival stages. They also run the FEMUA festival in Abidjan.
