Kenshi Yonezu spent his teens uploading Vocaloid songs under the name Hachi before debuting as a solo singer-songwriter in 2012. The 2018 single Lemon spent a record-setting twelve weeks at the top of the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and became the most-streamed Japanese song of the decade. The 2022 single KICK BACK (the Chainsaw Man anime opening) won the Japan Record Award and confirmed him as the defining male pop artist of the 2020s.
