Karpe, the Oslo duo of Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid and Chirag Rashmikant Patel, are the most important hip-hop act in Norwegian history and one of the country's biggest live draws of any genre. Formerly known as Karpe Diem, their Norwegian-language records about immigration, faith, racism, and growing up the children of Egyptian and Indian parents made them the defining voice of multicultural Norway. In 2022 they performed their conceptual work Omar Sheriff across ten consecutive sold-out nights at the Oslo Spektrum arena, a feat no other Norwegian artist has matched.
