Kao Denero is the stage name of Amara Dennis Turay, a rapper from Lungi in Port Loko District who went to secondary school in Freetown. He runs the Black Leo label and crew, and his first album, Black Leo 4 Life, came out in 2003, followed by King of Africa in 2005. For his 2013 album Back to My Roots he travelled to Kingston, Jamaica, to record Ghetto Struggle with the dancehall deejay Busy Signal. President Julius Maada Bio later appointed him a special envoy for entertainment and investment.
