Über Juan Luis Guerra
Juan Luis Guerra is the most important Dominican musician of the modern era and the man who made his country's music respectable abroad. Berklee-trained, he brought jazz harmony and literary lyrics to merengue and bachata, and his 1990 album Bachata Rosa sold millions and lifted bachata out of the barrio bars into concert halls. Songs like Ojalá Que Llueva Café and Visa Para Un Sueño paired irresistible grooves with sharp social observation about poverty and migration. He has won more than twenty Grammy and Latin Grammy awards and still tours arenas worldwide.
