Francis Magalona, known as FrancisM or Master Rapper, is the Father of Philippine Hip-Hop. His 1990 song Mga Kababayan fused rap with fierce nationalist pride and became a landmark that legitimized Filipino hip-hop as a homegrown art form. An actor, rapper, and cultural figure who wore his patriotism openly, he inspired generations of Filipino MCs before his death in 2009, and remains a revered symbol of Pinoy music.
