The first Indo-Trinidadian woman to take chutney into the Carnival mainstream, and she took considerable abuse for it from people who thought Indian women had no business in a calypso tent. Mr Bissessar, also known as Roll Up de Tassa, put tassa drumming into soca in 1988 and effectively created chutney soca. She has recorded with Machel Montano and Alison Hinds since. Her breakthrough is now read as a turning point in how Trinidad understood its own mixture.
