The singer who reopened calypso in 1986 by winning the Calypso Monarch and the Road March in the same year with Bahia Girl, at a moment when the form looked exhausted. His writing is more literary and less topical than the tent tradition, reaching for the Caribbean as a whole rather than the week's scandal. Calypso Music is effectively an argument for the form set to music. He has recorded steadily since and remains the calypsonian other musicians name first.
