The queen of parang, whose voice defined Trinidad's Spanish-language Christmas music for a generation. She sang in Spanish without speaking it fluently, which is true of most parranderos and is part of what the tradition is. Based in Siparia in the south, she recorded with La Divina Pastora and remained the form's central figure until her death in 1991. Her records still play in Trinidadian homes every December.
