Über Alpha Blondy
Alpha Blondy turned reggae into an Ivorian language. Brigadier Sabari, released in 1982 on Jah Glory, described a beating by Abidjan police and made him a national figure almost immediately. He records in Dioula, French, English and Hebrew, and has worked with the Wailers backing him. Four decades on he is still the artist most often named when people outside the country are asked about Ivorian music.
