About Southern All Stars
Founded in 1974 at Aoyama Gakuin University by Keisuke Kuwata, Southern All Stars built a fifty-year career as the most commercially successful Japanese band ever and one of the most beloved acts in any Japanese living room. Tsunami (2000) sold 2.93 million copies and remains the biggest Japanese single of the 21st century. Kuwata's growling vocal style and the band's effortless cross between rock, summer-coast ballads, and outright pop made them functionally Japan's Beatles.
