About Rachid Taha

Rachid Taha was an Algerian-French musician who fused rai with punk, rock, and electronica to create a sound that was defiantly boundary-crossing. Born in Oran and raised in Lyon, he first gained attention with the group Carte de Sejour before launching a celebrated solo career. His 1997 recording of 'Ya Rayah' became one of the most recognizable songs in the Arab world. Taha was a fearless musical experimenter and a voice for the Franco-Maghrebi immigrant experience.
