Prince was a one-man music industry: singer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter who fused funk, rock, pop, and new wave into the Minneapolis sound. Purple Rain in 1984 made him a superstar, and his catalogue of over 40 albums is one of the deepest in popular music. He died in 2016 at 57.
