Kaláka

About Kaláka

Kaláka are the longest-running Hungarian folk ensemble, formed in 1969 and still touring. Their signature project is the musical setting of Hungarian poetry: Ady Endre, József Attila, Weöres Sándor, Babits and Kosztolányi as song cycles for guitar, mandolin, double bass, and viola. Generations of Hungarian schoolchildren learned the literary canon through Kaláka's recordings, and the band still mounts annual festivals at the Margaret Island summer stage in Budapest.
