Josipa Lisac is the grande dame of Croatian art-rock, a singer whose four-octave drama and fearless styling made her a category of one. Her 1973 album Dnevnik jedne ljubavi, a song cycle mourning her late partner Karlo Metikoš, is regularly voted among the greatest albums ever made in the former Yugoslavia. Half a century on she remains a touchstone for every Croatian artist who values daring over comfort.
