Howlin' Wolf was the most ferocious voice in Chicago blues, a six-foot-three former farmer with a growl that shook the Chess studio. His recordings with guitarist Hubert Sumlin were covered by the Doors, Cream, and Led Zeppelin. He stands beside Muddy Waters as a pillar of electric blues.
