Known as the Queen of Dangdut, Elvy Sukaesih recorded her first hits with Rhoma Irama's Soneta in the early 1970s and then built a five-decade solo career as the female face of the genre. Her smoky alto, fluent ornamentation, and stage presence set the template for every dangdut singer who came after her. Mandi Madu remains her signature song.
