About El Carrao de Palmarito

El Carrao de Palmarito, born José Romero Bello, was one of the foundational voices of Venezuelan llanera music. Named for the loud-throated carrao bird of the plains, he was celebrated for his powerful, high-pitched singing in the contrapunteo tradition of improvised sung duels. From the state of Apure, he became a legend of the joropo recio, and his recordings shaped the country music of the Venezuelan interior for generations.
