DJ Arafat was the most productive and most argued about figure coupé-décalé produced. He released constantly across a fifteen year run, invented dance after dance, and conducted public feuds that his fans, the Chinois, followed like sport. Dosabado and Moto Moto are late examples of how completely he controlled the tempo of Ivorian pop. His death in a motorcycle crash in Abidjan in August 2019 brought tens of thousands into the streets.
