Azra, led by Branimir Johnny Štulić, are the defining band of the Zagreb novi val and a cornerstone of rock across the former Yugoslavia. Štulić wrote with a poet's density about love, politics, and street life, and albums like the 1982 live triple Ravno do dna are canon. His lyrics are quoted like literature, and the band's late 1970s to 1980s run remains the most mythologized chapter of Croatian rock.
