The 1960s and 1970s Dakar dance-band sound that grafted Cuban son and pachanga onto West African percussion and Wolof vocals. House bands at the Miami Club and Baobab Club, led by Star Band de Dakar and Orchestra Baobab, turned Senegalese nightlife into a Caribbean conversation and laid the groundwork from which mbalax later split off.
