The Boom

À propos de The Boom

Formed in Yamanashi prefecture in 1986 around singer Kazufumi Miyazawa, The Boom started as a ska and reggae band before turning to Okinawan musical idioms in the early 1990s. The 1992 single Shima Uta, a song written in Okinawan dialect about wartime suffering on the islands, became a number-one hit in Japan and Argentina and is now the band's defining work. They disbanded in 2014 but Shima Uta is regularly cited as one of the most important Japanese pop songs of the late twentieth century.
