Phum Viphurit, born Vichaya Vatanasapt in Bangkok and raised partly in New Zealand, became Thailand's biggest indie export of the late 2010s with his 2017 single Lover Boy. The lo-fi guitar-pop track passed 100 million YouTube views, was the first Thai indie song to chart on Spotify's Global Viral 50, and made him a 2018 SXSW and Glastonbury booking. His 2018 album Manchild and 2020 follow-up Hello, Anxiety expanded his palette into bedroom-pop and bossa nova. He continues to release and tour internationally and is the de facto face of Thai bilingual indie pop.
