Stepdaughter of Wolf Biermann, Hagen trained at the DDR's Central Studio for Light Music and formed the band Automobil. Her 1974 hit 'Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen' became a DDR pop classic. After Biermann's expulsion in 1976 she left for West Berlin and became the godmother of German punk.
